1987 - Monster truck (Rolling Vengeance)

Rolling Vengeance (1987):

Story & Build

  • Two custom monster trucks were built specifically for the movie by famed builder Mike Welch. One was based on his existing ride Destroyer I, which served as inspiration for the Rolling Vengeance truck.

  • The second chassis was later crudely converted into Destroyer II, and another became the truck known in shows as “Super Pete.”

Monster Truck as Cast: Rolling Vengeance

  • In the film, Joey Rosso builds a massive, heavily armored 8‑ton, custom monster truck using salvaged truck and car parts. It sports seven-foot-tall tires, a flame thrower, and even a retractable drill/metal cutter, which he uses to exact revenge on the men who destroyed his family.

  • Dubbed “Rolling Vengeance,” this vehicular beast is essentially the movie’s vigilante weapon—capable of crushing vehicles and bad guys alike.

Life After Filming: Super Pete

  • After production wrapped, Mike Welch kept one of the trucks, retrofitted it with a Peterbilt cab, and renamed it Super Pete. It then toured monster‑truck circuits throughout the 1990s before ultimately being scrapped.

  • The two trucks had subtle differences—same tire height, but one had slightly larger rims than the other.

Legacy

  • Although not one of the most famous monster‑truck movies, Rolling Vengeance gained cult status among fans for its audacious concept: a revenge monster-truck vigilante plowing through injustice.

  • The trucks themselves became part of monster‑truck lore thanks to Mike Welch’s craftsmanship and the “Super Pete” show truck that followed.
